I started competing over 40 years ago in 1975 before 10k's & the London Marathon.
From 1975 to 1983 I just did XC in the winter and track in the summer.
My first road race was the 1984 London Marathon in 3.17 on only 17 miles per week training The next 4 road races were all 1/2 marathons in March 1985 in 82 or 83 minutes each followed by the 1985 London Marathon in 2.55 after averaging 19 miles per week!
I have only run about 20 miles per week throughout my career which accounts for my relative success in old age.
Won the 2016 M60 British & Irish International XC in Glasgow in Nov. 2016 in my first ever race for England,
Won the 2017 M60 BMAF 10K road race at Gravesend in April 2017.
5th in the 2006 M50 World Masters 3,000m steeplechase in Italy running for GB.
Winner of my age group in the Sussex Grand Prix for 15 consecutive years from 2002 to 2016, but was narrowly beaten in 2017 due to injuries and the tenacity of my arch rival Paul Whelpton.
