Andrew gradually improved as a 400m runner, making a major breakthrough in 2007 when winning the UK title in 45.70secs. The experienced relay runner made a startling breakthrough in the heats of the Olympic Games. Having withdrawn from the final of the Olympic Trials with an injury, his fitness was in question. But Steele proved that he was in his best shape in Beijing, as he won the sixth heat and stormed to a 44.94 PB, which was 0.37 faster than his previous best. 2009 was ravaged by injury and 2010 although starting off promisingly, was again cut short with injury. Steele cites Michael Johnson and Jonny Wilkinson among his sporting heroes. The son of ITV's 'This Morning' doctor, Chris Steele, his brother is a professional musician who has played for Brand New Heavies and Errol Brown.
