Macey is renowned as being such a fighter, and despite being sidelined for many seasons, the Harrow AC athlete always delivered brilliant performances at major championships.

At the 1999 World Championships, Macey won a very surprising silver medal but was unlucky to finish outside the medals at the Olympic Games in Sydney but won another World Championships medal at the 2001 World Championships.

Macey missed the 2002 and 2003 seasons but qualified for the Olympic Games with a last-gasp attainment of the qualification standard and Macey returned to the international stage with great aplomb but for the second consecutive Olympics, the Canvey Island resident finished off the podium, in fourth place in a gutsy display.

Having missed the 2005 season, a less than 100% Macey still took his first major title in March 2006, as he took the Commonwealth title in Melbourne but agonisingly for the two-time Olympian, Macey picked up a last minute injury on the eve of the European Championships, after claiming that he was in the shape of his life.

Sadly for Macey, injuries ruined the following two seasons and after attempting to qualify for the Olympic Games in Hexham, Macey’s body broke down again and he could only muster up 7491-points and announced his retirement soon afterwards.
