I first started out in the 1980s with Newark AC, I soon found out that I liked most events, I went on to win the Notts AAA Junior Mens Decathlon Champs. I also had some good performances for Newark in cross country, steeplechase and various league matches. After changing back to football and a couple of half marathons later I arrived in Wrexham which kick-started my coaching career, I still compete for the club when my body lets me, I also take part in the masters' events as well? I also coach and help coordinate Open Athletics, this is a small group of LGBT athletes that are mainly based in and around Manchester who come together once a year for the very friendly Pride Games. As for coaching (started in 2000), I love what I do and hopefully, that comes through in the athletes, I have been lucky enough to coach many athletes that are very good (in my eyes), and some that have even gone on to win National Champs and break British Records.
